As a general rule for wood-polymer composites it is believed that higher the density, better will be the product. Although, screw-holding capacity and strength of the WPC board also depend on other factors such as ratio of PVC and CaCO3, density of the board gives a broader and better picture of the quality and performance of the PVC/WPC Boards and doors.

There are many discussions going over density of WPC boards and doors and everyone in the plywood industry desires to understand it better. As a dealer, distributor, end user it is of utmost importance for you to understand the calculation because you should get what you pay for.

Here in this blog we have listed the step-by-step procedure for calculating the density of the WPC Board.

To check density following are the steps:

  1. Measure the sheet on weighing scale in kg.

As you can see in the current image, weight of this door is 30.15 kg.

2. Measure the thickness using a Vernier Caliper.

The thickness of our door is 30.15mm. For ease of calculation we can consider it as 30mm.

3. Measure the length and width of the board/door using a measuring tape.

As you can see in the image, the length is 2.14 m (84 inches) and the width is 0.765 m (30 inches)

4. Apply the formula: Density = weight/volume

Weight/ (length x width x thickness)

From our above measurements,

Weight = 30.15 kgs

Length = 2.14m

Width = 0.765m

Thickness = 30mm

The density can be checked as follows

30.15/ (2.14*0.765*30)

=30.15/49.113

=0.61

In case you find, this calculation difficult, below attached is the weight chart for your reference that will give you the per sq. ft. depending on your thickness and density.

*Please note the length and width should be measured in metre and thickness in MM
